Chris Holland is Professor of Materials Science at the University of Sheffield and a leading expert in bio-derived and hierarchical materials. His research focuses on understanding and replicating the structure–property relationships found in natural materials such as silk, collagen, and other biological polymers, with the aim of developing sustainable high-performance materials.
His work combines advanced processing, rheology, and structural characterization to uncover how molecular and mesoscale organization governs macroscopic properties. This includes insights into spinning processes, flow-induced alignment, and the design of biomimetic materials with tailored functionality.
