The 35th Nordic Rheology Conference (NRC) and 14th International Conference on Mechanics of Time-Dependent Materials (MTDM) Conference join in Lund, Sweden, as one conference bringing together researchers and industry professionals, covering all aspects of rheology and the mechanics of time-dependent materials.
We welcome contributions ranging from fundamental studies to industrial case studies, spanning experimental, modeling, and application-oriented work. Topics include rheology with applications in polymers, foods, coatings, paper, fibers, and pharmaceuticals, as well as time-dependent phenomena such as frequency or strain rate sensitivity, fatigue, creep, relaxation, etc. Materials of interest include, for example, polymers and composites, soft matter, meta-materials, 3D-printed structures, living tissues, and rubber.
The program will feature a special emphasis on coupling rheology with advanced X-ray and neutron techniques, while continuing to embrace the broad range of topics in rheology and time-dependent material behavior.

Science Village, Lund. The lecture halls are located around a central foyer where exhibitors will present the latest rheology instrumentation, where posters can be displayed and lunches and coffee will be served.
There will also be poster sessions combined with tours of both MAX IV and ESS.

The program includes a mix of lectures by the invited speakers and contributions from delegates.
There will also be a poster session and an exhibition by leading rheology companies. The Annual Business Meeting of NRS as well as the MTDM committee meeting will be held in connection with the conference.
Instructions for presenters
Oral presentations are
15 minutes followed by 5 minutes for questions.
The maximum size of a poster is A0 (1189x841mm, portrait format). Please note that the posters will be presented in several locations and that the presenter will have to move the poster.
On Wednesday morning August 26, before the conference starts, a rheology course will be held. It will be an introduction to rheology to facilitate the understanding of more complicated topics discussed during the conference. The rheology part of the course will be given by Annika Sahlström, Reokonsa, who is a well known rheology lecturer in Scandinavia.
Ann Terry who is beamline scientist at MAX IV will give an introduction to X-ray and neutron techniques.
The course will be held at MAX IV (Fotongatan 2, Lund) starting at 9 on August 26 until lunch at 11.30. Ask for Ann Terry at the MAX IV reception.
The conference will include evening activities all evenings of the conference. Tickets to the events will be reserved at registration.

- Wednesday August 26: Reception and poster session at MAX IV including a tour of the facilities.
Refreshments and finger foods will be served.
- Thursday August 27: Poster session at ESS including a tour of the facilities and food and drinks. Bring your passport to get in to ESS.

Norman J. Wagner’s research focuses on the rheology and microstructure of complex fluids, combining rheology with advanced scattering techniques to uncover structure - property relationships in colloidal suspensions and soft materials. He is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, recipient of the 2014 Bingham Medal of the Society of Rheology, and former President of the Society of Rheology, among other honours. He is currently the Robert L. Pigford Chair and Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Delaware.
Viviane Lutz Bueno is a Senior Scientist at Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), Switzerland and lecturer at ETH Zürich working on method development and structural characterization of soft matter using small-angle scattering techniques. Her research focuses on in-situ scattering measurements of complex soft-matter systems, including microfluidic platforms for scattering experiments, chemical reactions under confinement, and dark-field imaging approaches.
Leif Asp is Professor of Lightweight Structures at Chalmers University of Technology and a leading expert in multifunctional composite materials. His research focuses on structural battery composites, where load-bearing materials are designed to simultaneously store electrical energy, enabling entirely new approaches to lightweight system design.
His work bridges mechanics, materials science, and energy storage, and has had significant impact on the development of next-generation structural materials for transport and energy applications.
Chris Holland is Professor of Materials Science at the University of Sheffield and a leading expert in bio-derived and hierarchical materials. His research focuses on understanding and replicating the structure–property relationships found in natural materials such as silk, collagen, and other biological polymers, with the aim of developing sustainable high-performance materials. His work combines advanced processing, rheology, and structural characterization to uncover how molecular and mesoscale organization governs macroscopic properties. This includes insights into spinning processes, flow-induced alignment, and the design of biomimetic materials with tailored functionality.
This workshop aims to enhance collaboration between industry and academia by exploring key challenges and identifying opportunities for improvement. It provides a platform for participants to share perspectives, reflect on current practices, and help shape more effective and impactful partnerships.
The discussion is guided by the central question:
“What are the biggest challenges in industry–academia collaboration from your perspective?”
Expected outcomes include:

👉 Strengthened mutual understanding between academic and industry stakeholders

The tournament will be held on August 25 at the famous Barsebäck Golf & Resort just 30 minutes away from the NRC venue in Lund. Follow the legendary players of the Solheim Cup and numerous European Tour competitions on the beautiful but challenging Ocean Course.
